BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF DCR, R.
MACEDONIA

 Priority objective of  “Defence for children’s rights” in Republic of Macedonia is the implementation of the UN Convention of the rights of the child in our national legislation and ensuring the children’s rights in that convention to be successfully respected and protected, as well. In that direction, DCR under-takes activities to their promotion, and moreover, to be accessible to each citizen in R of Macedonia, starting with the youngest generation, whom the rights are directly addressed.

In order to achieve this, key aims of DCR are:

·        To raise the awareness of children’s rights and to create solidarity with the children all over the world

·        To induce and evaluate application of children’s rights according to international law, particularly rights in the UN Convention of the rights of the child

·        To promote and apply the most efficient mechanisms in order to ensure and protect children’s rights in concretely situations

 

So far, following activities were under-taken:

·        Project for evaluation of national and international law regulative related to children’s rights.

·        Project for promotion of children’s rights in the schools;

·        Project for psychosocial integration of blind children;

·        Organized seminars, conferences related to affirmation and protection of children’s rights;

·        Published booklet as a result of the symposium in terms of children’s rights;

·        Recommendation for appropriated legal reforms

 

Great step forward is achieved with the establishment of the socio-legal defence Centre for children, which operate on two levels:

1.        Closer-in a sense that protect children’s rights in concretely situations, by providing free socio-legal aid for children whose rights are violated, including children who are in conflict with the law, and their representation to the competent institutions, as well

2.        Wider- by carrying-out the following activities:

·        Organizing training- seminars for professionals in the field of children’s rights and juvenile justice

·        Produce an information material about children’s rights from every branch of the social life

·        Promotion of children’s rights in accordance with national and international law by:

1.      Media campaign

2.      Conduct workshops in a way to be more accessible to the children

3.      Organizing seminars in the educational and other institutions which are in direct contact with children

·        Collaborate with all governmental institutions, NGO-s and professionals for mutual exchange of information and experiences.

·        Proposing and lobbing for appropriate legal reforms.
